Supplemental Health Insurance

Accident, critical illness, hospital indemnity, cancer, dental and vision coverage that can pay benefits alongside your main health plan. Supplemental plans are not a replacement for major medical coverage.

How supplemental health insurance works

Even good health insurance leaves deductibles, copays and lost income when something serious happens. Supplemental policies pay set cash benefits for covered events, such as an accidental injury, a hospital admission or a covered critical illness diagnosis, which you can use as you choose. Benefits, waiting periods, exclusions and pre-existing condition limits vary by policy, so we compare them carefully. These plans do not meet ACA minimum essential coverage requirements and are not a substitute for health insurance.

Offered to Ohio individuals, families and Medicare beneficiaries statewide.

Common questions

Is supplemental insurance the same as health insurance?

No. Supplemental plans pay limited, fixed benefits for specific events and do not replace major medical coverage. They work best alongside a health plan.

Can I use the money for anything?

Most accident, critical illness and hospital indemnity benefits are paid to you, not the doctor, so you can use them for bills, travel or lost income. Check each policy's terms.
